Persevere In Prayer

Are there moments in life where you feel like you aren’t receiving anything from God? Do you ever get discouraged? Do you ever feel frustrated? Surely we all have times when we feel like God isn’t answering us. Life moves fast. Sometimes I feel like I blink and two months have blown by while I’m still waiting. Jesus gave this advice to his followers:

Acts 1:4 (ESV) And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, “you heard from me

Don’t give up until you receive. Don’t just say a quick prayer and move on. Persevere. God is always faithful to His Word. Pray and keep on praying! Pray for the lost, pray for the broken, pray for the needs of the church and for missionaries. Pray for opportunities to share the gospel. Invest time in praying and worshipping God. Is your time better spent worrying or growing a strong relationship with God?

Our relationship with God isn’t about arriving in Heaven anymore than a human relationship is about arriving at marriage. It isn’t just about the destination, but journeying through life with God as your companion, actively involved, speaking, leading, protecting and comforting.

It’s out of relationship that we receive from the Lord. Too often we spend 10 minutes in prayer and we feel like we’ve done enough. Perhaps that is all we had time for that day, but if that is a continual problem then it is time to reevaluate our priorities. God’s number one priority is your relationship with Him. Clear your schedule and prioritize prayer!

Pray until you receive a breakthrough. Pray into the night. Whatever your need the answer can be found in prayer! Pray at home, pray in the car, pray in church. I’ve noticed something curious. There are times times when people have great need and are facing great obstacles, yet suddenly they can’t make it too church. Somehow when their need is the greatest, they find themselves busier than ever.

Growing up I always thought, I have to make sure I am in church, because God could show up in a powerful way at any moment and I don’t want to miss out on an opportunity to be with Jesus! Today I feel it is so vital for us to meet together in church and pray! The early church certainly believed in prayer.

Acts 1:14 (NLT) They all met together and were constantly united in prayer,

The great tragedy of the church today is that numbers are huge for the fun events when we have opportunity to fill our stomachs, but numbers are scarce when we have meetings devoted to prayer and have opportunities to fill our spirits.

Can I encourage you today to go into your prayer closet and open up the word of God and remember His promises. We have nothing to fear! He will never leave you. (Deut 31:6) When we are still before the Lord He will fight for us! (Ex. 14:14) He is on our side so who can be against us? (Rom 8:31) Place your hope in the Lord and He will strengthen you and give you the endurance you need! (Isaiah 40:31)

2 Samuel 22:31 (NLT) “God’s way is perfect. All the Lord’s promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to him for protection.

My heart for you is that you will develop of deep flourishing relationship with God. No one can do it for you. Intimacy with Jesus isn’t developed through osmosis, you’re not gonna catch a powerful spirit life just by being in church. You have to dig deep trenches and let the Lord fill your life with His life giving Spirit.

2  Kings 3:16-17 (NKJV)  And he said, “Thus says the Lord: ‘Make this valley full of ditches.’ 17 For thus says the Lord: ‘You shall not see wind, nor shall you see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, so that you, your cattle, and your animals may drink.’

Don’t stop praying, don’t stop digging until you see a breakthrough. God has not abandoned you, His promises are still true. Start praying today and never stop.
